We associate doing something therapeutic with going to a psychology clinic where someone asks me questions. But we have so many things around us that can be therapeutic that go unnoticed.
We do not have to wait until we are emotionally unwell to discover a healing and positive activity for our bodies, both physically and mentally. And as you can imagine, yes, learning Spanish helps us to improve our skills, reduce stress, live in the present and now and age better.
Improve cognitive skills
When we learn a new language, we help our brains to develop areas related to concentration and memory. We are therefore stimulating greater attention and retention of the information that comes to us. It is like an oil that we pour into the gears of the neurons, making them run smoother and faster.
All this makes us age better, because we are working the brain muscles in the long term.
Orientation in the present
Learning to communicate in a different code keeps us focused so that we can concentrate on the here and now. Meditation is also a practice that can be done through a variety of activities, it does not need to be done in front of a mountain or on the sofa at home.
The fact that we are doing something that motivates us and requires us to have a skill is a good meditation practice. And yes, it has been proven that learning Spanish can help us to reduce stress and anxiety and really focus on the present.
So it can be concluded that if we sign up for a Spanish course, our self-esteem and confidence will improve over time.
Establishing habits and roles
As we already know, setting goals within our routine is fundamental. This is no different when we decide to speak another language, the fact that we have to move forward helps us to be clear about the goals of the process and this directly interferes with the routine we have at home.
Gary Kielhofner’s Human Occupancy Model
Gary Kielhofner sees the human being as a dynamic system that is constantly evolving and changing over time.
We have a basic need to explore and master our environment. When we embark on the process of learning another language, we are fulfilling our need to explore something unfamiliar. And, of course, to master it.
The habits and goals we set for ourselves, the activities we do and the occupation we give ourselves in general will be the key to feeling happier. More motivated and more generous with ourselves.
We do not like the relationship TEACHER – STUDENT, we are YOUR COMPANION, your guide.
Exactly, after having gone through many methods and places, the conclusion is that, as in medicine, EVERYTHING is important. Spanish classes are a means to achieve many things: to communicate with an environment that is not my own, to learn about this culture or those cultures, to challenge myself to improve, to improve my ability to communicate in my own language, to improve my self-confidence, to love myself more. To trust that I can and to know that I will succeed.
In Spanish classes we work on the body through the voice, through expression; we work on the mind through the cognitive process and we work on the emotions through motivation and activity.
We will talk about much more! But remember: Learning Spanish helps us improve our skills, reduce stress, live in the present and age better.
